On May 2, 2025, Tala partnered with Project PEARLS (Peace, Education, Aspiration, Respect, Love, and Smiles) to bring an unforgettable outreach program to Tondo, Manila—a day filled with learning, connection, and compassion. Together, we empowered underserved communities through financial literacy, educational support, and livelihood programs, proving that real change begins when we show up for one another.
Tala x Project PEARLS: A Shared Mission
Since 2010, Project PEARLS has worked to provide access to education, nutrition, and healthcare for children, youth, and families in some of the most vulnerable areas of the Philippines.
At Tala, we believe financial empowerment is a right—not a privilege. This shared belief is what brought us together with Project PEARLS.
“Partnering with Project PEARLS brings our mission to life,” said Mia Lim, People Director at Tala Philippines. “Their deep commitment to education and financial literacy perfectly aligns with our goal to uplift and empower communities across the country.”
Nourishing Minds and Hearts
As part of this collaboration, Tala proudly sponsored scholarships for 20 hardworking students from Tondo—helping them pursue their education and dreams. We also provided 500 nutritious meals to children and families, recognizing that learning flourishes when basic needs are met.
Our commitment goes beyond one-day support. We’re proud to back sustainable, long-term solutions—like livelihood programs that equip families with tools to thrive.
“With support from Tala and our other partners, we’re set to help 800 scholars—from preschool to college—this coming school year,” shared Karen Beblañas, Education Partnership Manager at Project PEARLS. “We can’t do this alone. Our donors are truly the lifeblood of our programs.”
TALAKayan: When We Learn Together, We Grow Together
The heart of the day was TALAKayan, Tala’s flagship financial literacy workshop, led by registered financial planner Jog Bondoc of Empower and Transform. High school and college scholars from Project PEARLS participated in this interactive session, learning practical money skills often left out of traditional education—such as budgeting, saving, debt management, identifying scams, and building credit.
Bondoc encouraged students to take financial responsibility seriously. “It’s best not to take loans until you’re of legal age and have a steady income,” he advised.
For many participants, the timing couldn’t have been better. “Now that I’m graduating, I’m already thinking about how to get a job, save money, and help my family,” said Rina Bignayan, an incoming fourth-year college student. “I’m thankful for this opportunity to learn how to manage money properly.”
At Tala, we believe financial literacy today builds confidence—and opens doors—tomorrow.
Led by Purpose, Powered by People
Tala’s leadership team, including General Manager Moritz Gastl and President & Head of Finance Charisse Alvarez, were also hands-on throughout the day—joining arts and crafts with elementary students and participating in crochet and weaving sessions with women in the community.
“This isn’t just CSR—it’s part of who we are,” said Alvarez. “Tala brings technology and data-driven insights, while Project PEARLS brings grassroots action and heart. Together, we’re not just giving aid—we’re creating real, lasting financial empowerment rooted in trust and compassion.”
The day reflected Tala’s larger mission: to build inclusive financial systems—not only through tools and technology, but through meaningful, on-the-ground relationships.
Moving Forward, Together
This partnership is just the beginning. At Tala, we’re committed to helping the global majority thrive — one workshop, one student, and one empowered community at a time.
Because building a brighter future starts with knowledge — and community.
Maraming Talamat, Ka-Tala, for being part of our mission to create a more financially inclusive Philippines. When we lift each other up, the impact reaches far beyond today.
